The body is ready for a fast when the bowel transit id functioning optimally, which is when you bowel movements equal food intake. In other words, when your bowel movements are two times a day and you are eating two times a day etc. Also it is advisable to do other types of cleansing prior to fasting. It is best to ask your natural health care practitioner to let you know when you should begin a fast. But unless you are having good bowel function you should not start a fast, because the cells will be cleansed, and then the toxins will not be eliminated, but rather reabsorbed into because the main eliminary channel is not open and functioning to remove the toxins.
The Colon needs be functioning properly before you begin a fast because the muscle function of the colon becomes sluggish when fasting, because proper distension of the Intestine triggers the Peristalsis of the Colon. Thus it is generally recommendable to have a few Colonics prior to beginning any fast, and using colonics periodically with the fast, which varies depending on the length of the fast. Also any fiber bulking agents used to cleanse the intestine will have a tendancy to further bulk up the intestine, which makes colonics even more necessary while fasting,
The liver is already burdened and is that much more burdened when it needs to filter out the excess toxins being released from the cells of the organs during fasting. Thus to support the liver with the right nourishment and herbs to aid it in all forms of detoxification is recommendable.
