Container Gardening
Container gardening is done in
containers.  It is a way of gardening
that allows you to grow your own
vegetables and herbs in containers.
It can be for anyone, but is
especially for those who live in
apartments or those who wish to
have a garden in a small area.  All
the gardening is done above
ground in containers.  The
workshop teaches how to create
proper draining and nourishing
soil, what size containers to use,
composting, how to fertilize, and
tips about harvesting.
Container gardening is the same as
regular gardening, but is a
contained fashion.
Composting is  a practice of transforming your leftover
fruits and vegetables, their peels, and some other
natural materials into compost, which is a substance
when added to other soil amendments and soil makes a
bedding that is very nutritious for most plants.
Composting is actually a natural
event that is done in nature, when
leaves and fruits fall from the trees
they compost and when plants die
they compost as well.  If you will be
growing herbs and vegetables in
your containers than having
organic properly produced
compost is essential to the mineral,
vitamin, and over all integrity of the
food you will be eating.
In this workshop you will learn how to plant your seeds in your containers.
You will learn how to start your seeds in small containers and then to graduate
theminto larger containers.  Topics covered will include proper conditions and
environments for seed starting, proper soils and amendments for seed starting,
and the variations depending on seed.  Also we will cover in the workshop how
to propagate plants from cuttings from other plants.

Starting seeds in
containers allows the
seeds to be able to be
moved and allows you
to control their
growing conditions,
thus creating generally
stronger healthier
plants

Composting is something that needs to be learned whether you are doing
gardening in the ground, above the ground in beds, or in smaller containers
and pots.  It is how you create your own food for the plants that you will be
growing.  If done properly you will insure for healthy nourished plants.
Many do not know that they can have their own farm in containers.  Most
vegetables and herbs can be grown in containers.
