Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient treatment that uses needles to augment the energetic flow of the Organ systems. It is best used in accordance a diagnosis by a Doctor of Chinese Medicine, Dietary Suggestions, and Herbal Medicines.

To understand the efficacy of Acupuncture it is necessary first to have some idea of what the Meridian channels are. Chinese Medicine likens the human body to a highly complex electrical circuit. Like any electrical circuit it must be kept in good working order if it is to function effectively, and if the circuit breaks down the result is illness. Chinese Medicine theorises that it is essential for qi, as well as blood to circulate in a continuous and unobstructed manner for good health of the mind and body. Acupuncture meridians or channels are the pathways through which the energy flows throughout the body. Acupuncture points lie along the meridians and are the holes that allow entry into the acupuncture meridians. The acupuncture points provide gateways to influence, redirect, increase, or decrease body’s vital substances, qi (energy) & blood, thus correcting many of the body’s imbalances.

Moxibustion: Moxibustion: is a part of Chines Medicine in which the Physician uses herbs burning on the end of the needle as seen in the image to the right. For more in depth information on Moxibustion please click here.

There are various types of acupuncture needles available for use, even painless ones. Painless needles help to ease the stress level of patients, helping the acupuncturist to avoid the possibility of an automatic reflex from the patient when inserting the needles. Painless acupuncture needles help patients to experience more comfort during the procedure, creating a lower stress level, which in turn, allows the procedure to work more effectively.
Be sure to eat something light an hour or two before arriving - don't arrive on a completely empty stomach or having just eaten a large meal. Try to avoid the intake of caffeine or pain medications for at least several hours before you come. Wear loose fitting comfortable clothing. Bring a list of any medications or supplements which you are currently taking.
F.A.Q.
What Credentials does my Doctor of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture have?
What do I need to know before my initial visit?
Typically I treat patients once a week. If the condition is acute and painful, I may want to do treatments 2-3 times per week for the first couple of weeks. The benefits of acupuncture treatments tend to hold longer as you receive treatments, so what typically happens is that my patients start to need to see me less and less, so after a while they only come only periodically for maintenance.

Are those Needles Safe (Disposable Needles)?
How quickly will I feel better?
With different diseases in the world today, especially those caused by needles that are unclean, the safety of acupuncture needles is of concern to many people. Fortunately in the United States, the Food and Drug Administration has strict guidelines on acupuncture needles such as the requirement they be sterile and used only one time.
In general, I tell my patients they should start to feel the benefits from acupuncture in 2-3 treatments. If the problem is acute, sometimes improvement is felt after 1 treatment, and may only need 3-5 treatments to resolve. If the problem is chronic and long term, it may take a many treatments to help resolve.
